This past Friday, I went to the MAD graduation for my sister with my family and then right after was the spring showcase.  The graduation was actually pretty cool how they had a video of all the seniors talking about their experience and who they wanted to thank for allowing them to go through high school in the MAD academy.  It was super crowded and there were not enough seats for everyone and since we came late, my family and I didn’t get seats.  The spring showcase was actually pretty cool how it was actually in the new MAD building.  I had friends there from Bishop who’s brother was graduating from the MAD academy and I made sure you get a picture of them with someones photography.   The juniors music videos that they made was probably my favorite part.  They were really cool and I could have sat there the whole time if I didn’t know there was food outside or if I didn’t have to leave with my family to go to dinner.  The dinner was at Arnoldi’s and it was really good Italian food.  The atmosphere there is awesome and i really recommend it for families with kids.

MAD Beach Clean-Up

Last Friday, MAD had a beach clean-up trying to raise money for new equipment.  It was actually a pretty good idea, but it was not at a great time in the year.  Each student was supposed to go around and collect money but most students were not able to because the AP tests were that same week.  Next year I would recommend not to have it the same week.  Sadly there was not a ton of people there either.  I thought more people would come because it was a mandatory thing but surprisingly there were not many people at all.    My friends and I still made it a great time.  To start it off, Lexi and I get out of my car wearing our almost matching ray bans, just to have everyone stare at us… it was kinda scary and uncomfortable.  After we listened to the girls speech, Lexi, Julia, Sam, and I started running around the beach trying to collect the most trash and the biggest things before anyone else did.  We went up to several people on the beach and asked if they had any trash.  Once of trash bag started leaking with dr. pepper we decided to go back to the grass and call it quits.  We stayed around for a little while longer and then Lexi and I had to leave.  It was an interesting time.  123

MAY MAD LUNCH

This months MAD lunch was pizza, salad, and ice cream sundays. My three favorite things in one place. Pizza is usually a hit or miss with me… I don’t like the crust too thin, unless it’s from Via Vai and it’s really good Italian pizza, but if its other types, I like thicker crust. It was a win win situation for the pizza, because I got a thick crust piece and a thin crust and I was in such a good mood after that. I usually like all kinds of salads and I’m not too picky unless its just gross lettuce that tastes like dirt. I do have a friend, Nikki, who loves the taste of dirt, it is really weird but she also likes to eat grass too… You cannot really go wrong with ice cream and especially not when it is an ice cream sunday bar. There were so many options and I got everything, except like the jelly beans and whipped cream. I kinda hate whipped cream, but I love jelly beans, just jelly beans in ice cream, 1. Doesn’t sound very appetizing and 2. Wouldn’t taste good because they would be so hard/cold. The only thing i do not like about MAD lunches is the parents never tell you to stop eating. I could have like four plates and they would keep encouraging me to eat more, this is a problem because I don’t need to be eating a 3,000 calorie lunch.

Finally… The NEW MAD Building

I am quite excited about moving into the mad building, I had not been in it before we moved into here and I was pleasantly surprised.  Everything is clean and neat and I love that because I do have OCD and I like everything to be perfect.  Today is the end of the first week that we have been in here and everything has gone pretty good, well at least it seems like it to me.  I love that there is so much space in here.  The building is HUGE!!! Even in our labs, we are more spaced out and each aisle has enough room to walk in between people sitting, which is really nice not having to weave in and out of the crowded chairs.  Speaking about chairs, our new chairs are awesome and they look super cool.  The ceilings are super high and it makes everything feel more open.  The projector screen in the front of our room is a lot bigger and it makes a big difference if you sit in the back of the room.  Now for my favorite part of the new building… the bathroom and the water bottle refill station.  The girls finally have their own bathrooms which is very nice and to top it off, the bathrooms have the best hand dryers in the whole school.  I drink a ton of water at school and the water bottle refill station is just sooooo nice and very convenient.  All the pros of the new building make the one con, (the location and how far it is away from all my other classes), not even a big deal.  I love it here!

Best Way to Spend $2

The best way to spend $2 is to go to McDonald’s, not to go to the stupid double dollar dance at Santa Barbara High School.  Well I mean I wouldn’t actually know because the people wouldn’t even let my friends and I in, which was retarded.  They didn’t even let the ASB president in who had helped set up and come up with the idea of having it.  After waiting around for a little we decided that it was stupid and we were just going to go home, on the way home, my friends Jackie, Dane, Lexi, and I got the great idea of going to McDonald’s.  Were ended up getting fries and McFlurry’s and even a free one too because the cash register man loved us and wanted to date each one.  He was actually a very funny man and we should go back to say hi.  Comment your favorite things to get at McDonald’s when you turn to the bad side and go there.

Pasta Mad Lunch

After the last Mad lunch that was burritos that was not very good and kinda depressing, I was very happy to find out this month was pasta.  You simply just cannot go wrong with pasta.  Hot or cold, any type of pasta is good.  My favorite was the pesto pasta, but it was a little awkward temperature, it was either supposed to be hot but it wasn’t hot still, or it was supposed to be cold and it was heated up from the sun or something, but it was still good.  The moms in the line for food just kinda threw all the different kinds on my plate and I was a little sad when part of my plate was wasted with the weird salami pasta.  For some reason this months desserts were delicious.  They had cookies in individual wrappers that were absolutely amazing if you let them sit in the sun for a little bit, that way they were slightly melted and just so so good.  The brownies also had to be homemade because they are more rich than the Ghirardelli brownie mix.  Over all I would say this was a very successful Mad lunch which makes me pretty happy because it was one of the last ones.

Moving On…

After years of my dad talking about how the Mad Academy is moving into a new building and every one the board trying to get it happen… it is finally happening.  We are finally moving in.  It is a dream come true, minus the location.  Our parking is a little far away but it is alright because the exercise wont hurt.  I am excited for the new building because it will be a lot bigger which is exactly what we need.  During passing periods it is normal to get pushed around and hit from the back and from the front from people rushing to their next class.  Still, I will miss this building because it is pretty cozy and the location is very convenient.  I am ready to move into the other building.  I am ready to not get ran over by older people trying to get to their classes.  I might be a little late to some of my other classes because it will most likely be far away from them but that’s okay.  Some things from the old building… My friends I love sitting with, especially Patrick Hall, the crowded room where I get ran over by seniors every morning, and the stupid metal pole thing that I always hit my hip on when I’m walking.

Mad Lunch

If you are not in the Mad Academy at Santa Barbara High School, I feel really bad for you.  Mad has so much to offer, including the lunches!  I believe it is every second Wednesday of the month and each time it is some sort of delicious foods that the parents make and bring in.  My favorite lunch was probably the different soups and the cornbread, because I love the soup that my mom brought in and corn bread is my weakness… Well actually now that im thinking about it, maybe the Mac n Cheese lunch was my favorite.  That week my plate was piled to the very top and it was stacked with all different kinds.  Of course I finished my whole plate and for dessert that day I had a doughnut.  This weeks lunch was burritos, not my favorite because there wasnt much variety and it was just beans, cheese, chicken, and rice.  I was a little disappointed about that… but the dessert completely made up for it.  There was a whole ice cream sunday set up!  I had so much ice cream, with chocolate and Carmel cause, crushed Oreos, crushed butterfingers, crushed every single candy bar you can think of, M&M’s, gummy bears, and whipped cream.  I didn’t have the whipped cream though, because it is not my favorite.  Check out the Mad Academy website here!

Last night, I went to the Mad Winter Showcase 2013 with my older sister Emma who is also in the Mad Academy.  It was at the Brooks Institute downtown and it was actually really nice there.  I was very surprised because I had never been there before.  It was actually pretty cool and it was a good time.  The showcase showed everyone’s work that is in the Mad academy.  The sophomores had their work on illustrator on a slide show in a separate room.  The juniors had their photography hanging up on the wall.  The music videos that the seniors made were being played as well.  My favorite part of the showcase was the juniors photography, I was very impressed and they thought they were all good.  Sadly I couldnt stay very long because I had to go to my volleyball practice, but for the time I was there, it was a fun time.  Overall I thought that the work from all the Mad students was very good.  Check out the Mad website here!
